Legal, Compliance & Privacy Policy

Privacy Policy:

Your privacy is very important and this policy explains how your personal information will be handled in this practice. As a clinical psychologist, the aim is to ensure your information is always kept safe and confidential.

Collecting Information:

When you attend therapy, personal information like your name, contact details, medical history and the issues you want to work on will be collected. This information helps provide the best possible care and ensures that therapy is tailored to your needs. All of this is done with your informed consent.

Using Your Information:

Your information will only be used to support your therapy, such as planning treatment, keeping records and communicating with you about appointments. It will not be shared with anyone else unless you give written permission, or in very specific situations explained below.

Confidentiality and When It Might Be Broken:

What you discuss in therapy will stay private, but there are times when the law requires confidentiality to be broken, such as:

  • If there is a risk of harm to you or someone else.
  • If there is a legal obligation to report certain issues (for example, child abuse).
  • If a court orders the release of information.

These situations will always be discussed with you when possible.

Keeping Your Information Safe:

Your records will be stored securely, either electronically (with password protection) or in locked filing cabinets if they’re on paper. Information is kept for the amount of time required by South African law and will be safely destroyed when no longer needed.

Your Rights:

You have the right to see the personal information that is kept about you and to ask for any corrections if needed. You can also choose to stop sharing your information, but this may affect the therapy provided.

Any Questions:

If you have questions or concerns about how your information is handled or regarding the therapeutic process, you are welcome to ask at any time or get in touch with the practice directly.
